Dr. Pedro Rivera

Dr. Pedro A. Rivera is the 10th president of Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. A distinguished educator and public servant, he previously served as Pennsylvania's Secretary of Education, was appointed to the Pennsylvania State Board of Education in 2022, the Pennsylvania State Board of Higher Education in 2024, and earned acknowledgment from the White House in 2014 for his innovative work in urban education. He also served on the education transition teams for the Biden-Harris Administration, Governor Josh Shapiro, and Governor Tom Wolf.
A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Rivera earned degrees from Pennsylvania State University, Cheyney University, Arcadia University, and the University of Pennsylvania. He participates in numerous national education initiatives, including his selection to the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program's President's Fellowship.
Dr. Rivera serves on the boards of national and local organizations, including the Aspen Institute K12 Climate Action, Aspen Education Cross-Partisan Education Policy Network, The Hunt Institute, the Community First Credit Union, Lancaster County Community Foundation, Lancaster County STEM Alliance, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, St. Joseph's University, and WITF Public Broadcasting.
Dr. Rivera’s mission is to ensure educational opportunities are accessible to all, drawing from his personal experience to inform his leadership approach and policy advocacy.
